About Our Summer Camps

At GRR, we aim to create a friendly environment for creatures and humans to have fun and grow together.  Each of our campers joins with a horse for the duration of their camp to learn more about riding, caring for and communicating with their equine partner.  There is a daily riding lesson, as well as afternoon horse time and activities that often include bareback riding.

Each camp is comprised of small groups of 8 riding participants per camp and 4 riders per lesson, which allows us to give personalized attention from our experienced team.  We have two therapeutic riding instructors and a licensed counselor on staff, as well as camp facilitators. This supportive team emphasizes both physical and social-emotional growth.

The first thing our campers learn is to understand herd dynamics and read horse body language in order to work safely with horses. These capabilities may even be transferred to interactions with family, friends and others!

We teach solid riding skills that form the building blocks for success in any riding discipline–beginning with a balanced seat, an independent hand, and an understanding of leg and other communications aids.

Throughout our fun camp learning and competitive activities, participants will gain confidence and leadership skills, as we emphasize the importance of and ways to develop meaningful relationships (with horses and humans).

And, kids make each week extra special helping us to design camps by choosing from a number of activities, such as, observing horses at liberty; learning training techniques; bathing horses; water fights; exploring the ranch; barn chores, horse-related art and more!  Finally, we work to tailor the experience for each child providing the right degree of challenge and support for each individual depending on his/her level.

After nine years, we welcome returning campers–many of whom go on to mentor other young riders through our leadership program!

Which instructor is best for my child?

  • We have two wonderful and experienced instructors at the ranch.
    • Alyssa Huggins-Alyssa helps riders gain confidence as an emerging competitor, by strengthening their knowledge of riding, horsemanship and sportsmanship.  She joins us from The Denver Equestrian Center where last summer she challenged her riders with quizzes to test their horse knowledge!
    • Liz Polanco-Liz is a co-founder and has hosted camp programs at GRR since 2009.  Her emphasis is on communications and relationships through enlightening and fun activities that show campers how to bond and partner with their horses.  Liz is particularly geared for riders who need a little extra support to relax, feel confident and excel.
  • Liz and Alyssa will co-facilitate certain activities at each other’s camps, yet the lead facilitator will be the riding instructor and main teacher for the specified week.
